The problems related to the use of a traditional door can be overcome designing a leaf whose movement is no longer circular, but characterized by a variable-radius longitudinal arch that is very similar to a cycloid and can reduce the distance between the handle and a subject placed in a fixed position. The concept remains effective also for users forced to use crutches or other walking aids, even though the relevant problems may be different. Thanks to this movement it is possible to reduce considerably the space occupied by the leaf during opening and closing operations, recovering some room that otherwise would be “unusable”. With a double-swing leaf also the problems related to the opening direction can be solved. The movement just described consists of the simultaneous combination of two movements of rotation and translation made by the leaf and so this latter, when it is opened, leans laterally against the wall.
